Grouse Fibre was established in 2024 as a response to the climate emergency. Our innovative protein fibre production concept was developed and refined by Dr. Tom O'Haire, our founder and CEO. Our dedicated team, composed of materials scientists, chemists, and agronomists, is focused on the challenge of manufacturing sustainable fibres.
We are passionate about creating new materials and fibres.
Our commitment lies in building a commercially viable protein fibre production platform that can scale effectively, facilitating the transition to peat-free growing media.
This idea emerged when we pondered the question, "What is the most important and impactful thing we can work on?"
Addressing the challenge of peat-free growing media presents an opportunity with significant carbon impact relative to the effort involved. Peat use in horticulture contributes notably to carbon emissions, and the loss of peatlands also leads to a decline in the ecological and biodiversity benefits that peat provides.
An additional answer to our inquiry involves discovering a sustainable means of protein fibre production and utilizing these fibres in applications that highlight their unique properties. Our expertise in polymers and fibre production positions us to advance this development effectively.
Nevertheless, we recognize that we do not have all the answers. We are eager to connect with experts in protein feedstocks, fibre processing, and commercial horticulture.
